The focus of Savanah's work is the interaction between form and textured patterns. Her patterns are a coalescence of soft, rounded slip trailing and angular, straight carved lines. These angled zig zag shapes interact with slip trailed dots and plant-inspired organic shapes to form unique tactile designs, each one looking a little different depending on the form they are on.

She is drawn to ceramics as an intersection of art, science, and design. Limitless opportunities for exploring different forms and functional items exist.  These otherwise utilitarian forms are transformed into pieces of art intended for daily use. Glazes alter these pieces into a multitude of colors and textures, each providing their own look and feel to a piece.

Often looked at as a finishing touch to ceramics, glazes hold their own unique properties and chemistries. They interact with different atmospheres, minerals and metals, and temperatures to form different chemical reactions, which give us our multitude of textures and colors. A vibrant red created by copper interacting with a reduction atmosphere, or a bright turquoise created by copper interacting with an oxidation atmosphere. 

Ceramics is special because these factors: base form, surface texture, glaze chemistry, all come together to create pieces of functional art we can enrich our daily lives with.
